Tenure-track Position in Sport, Physical Activity, and Youth Development


The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, one of the three academic units of the Faculty of Education at McGill University, invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, effective January 1, 2024. We are seeking an individual who will have a broad mandate to advance social science and pedagogical knowledge in sport and physical activity among children, adolescents, or youth. We welcome applicants with culturally diverse research expertise and/or intersectional approaches that include issues linked to mental health, disability, gender, race, or other areas of diversity. The candidate must hold a PhD degree (post-doctoral experience an asset) in the social sciences or related discipline, with an emphasis on sport, physical activity, and/or pedagogy for children, adolescents, or youth.


McGill University is a world-renowned English-language institution located in the heart of cosmopolitan Montreal and is ranked among the world’s top universities. The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education offers a B.Ed. in Physical and Health Education (since 1912), a B.Sc. in Kinesiology, as well as graduate degrees in six areas of specialization. We are seeking an individual who can work in an interdisciplinary environment, complement and expand existing research activities in the department, the faculty, and across the university. The candidate must have an emerging and/or outstanding research profile demonstrated by excellent publications, national and international conference presentations, and an ability to attract external funding. The candidate will also be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise master’s and doctoral students in Kinesiology and/or Physical Education. Specific teaching contributions are expected in, but not limited to, some of the following areas: youth and physical activity, physical and health education curriculum, and evaluation in pedagogy.


McGill University is an English-language institution where most teaching activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing.


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
