If your career goal is to become a physical education teacher educator and a physical education researcher, this is a great opportunity for you to (a) pursue a Ph.D. degree in a high-quality graduate program and (b) gain tremendous experience on conducting school-based physical education curriculum intervention.
The new students will join a dynamic, productive team of three doctoral students to assist in the The Science of Essential Balance (SEB) project funded by the NIH (2018-2023). The assistantship will offer the students stipend, in-state tuition, and fringe benefits.
Through course work and hands-on research experiences, the new students will join three Ph.D. students already in the lab to learn and help to 1) develop, revise, and field-test the SEB curriculum in ~20 high schools; 2) use sophisticated mixed research designs and methodologies; 3) organize and analyze large qualitative and quantitative data sets; and (4) write research reports/manuscripts for publication as the lead author or co-author (and the dissertation if desired).
The Pedagogical Kinesiology Laboratory is equipped with advanced teaching and research equipment to study physical education impact on learner knowledge, motivation, and behavior for healthy, active lifestyles. The new students will be encouraged and supported to study physical literacy, curriculum theory and development, learner achievement, learner motivation, physical activity behavior change, teacher/learner voices, and more related topics. Qualifications: 1) obtain or expect a Master’s by Summer 2020 in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Psychology, Exercise Sociology, or other related fields; 2) Competitive GRE scores; and 3) Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Previous research and teaching experience are desirable.
Assistantship includes: Competitive stipend, in-state tuition waiver, and fringe benefits for 4 years when a good academic standing is maintained. Additional competitive funding support is available in the Department of Kinesiology and University including professional development award, summer research assistantships, travel awards, etc.
