Assistant or Associate Professor in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE)

The School of Kinesiology and Recreation invites applications for the position of a tenure-track to begin August 16, 2019.

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctoral degree required in Physical Education Pedagogy, or a commensurate field, with a specialization in Teacher Education in K-12 Physical Education. Applicants with expected completion of their doctoral degree before May 1, 2020 will be considered. Practical experience in the field of K-12 physical education is required. Experience in college teaching, a quality, focused line of research, and professional service is desired. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law. For consideration at the associate level, applicants should have an appropriate record of teaching excellence and scholarship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
TEACHING: Provide quality instruction in undergraduate K-12 PETE courses and graduate courses in Physical Education Pedagogy (PEP). Direct graduate research projects and theses.
SCHOLARSHIP: Develop a focused area of scholarship that culminates in nationally refereed publications and presentations and be involved in scholarly projects with faculty and students.
SERVICE: Participate in College, School and Program faculty meetings and activities. Serve on Program, School, College, and/or University Committees and contribute to State and National/International professional organizations. Advise majors regarding general career options and professional matters.

APPOINTMENT: Tenure track, nine-month position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience with a comprehensive benefits package.

APPOINTMENT DATES: The starting date is August 16, 2019.

RELATED INFORMATION: Illinois State University, founded in 1857, is the oldest public university in Illinois. There are approximately 20,000 students in the six colleges of Illinois State University. The Physical Education Teacher Education program is a part of the School of Kinesiology and Recreation. The PETE undergraduate program leads to K-12 teaching licensure upon successful completion. All PETE student teachers complete an edTPA portfolio required for licensure in the state. The six current full-time PETE faculty teach approximately 175 undergraduate PETE majors. The PETE Program is accredited with National Recognition from NCATE. With 900 undergraduate majors and 35 full-time faculty members in the School, undergraduate programs also prepare majors in athletic training, exercise science, and recreation and park administration. The Master’s degree program in Kinesiology and Recreation includes eight specialized sequences including the Physical Education Pedagogy program which is delivered 100% online. There are over 100 Master’s degree students in the School’s graduate program, and it is the third largest on campus. The School is located in the state of the art Student Fitness Center and McCormick Hall complex which opened in January 2011.
