Ted Baumgartner earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1961 and an MS degree from Southern Illinois University in 1962. He then taught in the public schools of Oklahoma for two years. He earned a Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa in 1967. In 1967 Ted joined the faculty at Indiana University and in 1977 moved to the University of Georgia. He retired in June of 2017 after a 50-year college teaching career. Ted was internationally known as an expert in measurement in the field of kinesiology. He co-authored two textbooks which were in the 9th and 5th editions when he retired as an author. Ted also founded the Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science Journal. He was elected to the National Academy of Kinesiology and received three honor awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award from national professional associations.
