EUMOVE Project: Promoting healthy lifestyles among children and adolescents

Physical inactivity is a worldwide public challenge and a leading risk factor for overweight and obesity. Recently, the World Health Organization published a policy brief to highlight the important role of schools for the integration of physical activity into primary and secondary schools. The EUMOVE Project is a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ which aims to design and implement a comprehensive set of strategies and resources to enable the educational community to promote healthy lifestyles in order to reduce risk factors for non-communicable diseases.   This is a 3-year project leaded by University of Extremadura (Spain), in collaboration with academic and non-governmental institutions from Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The direct beneficiaries of the project are school leaders, teachers, and parents, and indirect beneficiaries will be primary and secondary students.   The EUMOVE project will develop a set of strategies and resources such as a Physically Active Lessons Toolkit, a Real Time Active Breaks Platform, an Active School Commuting Toolkit, Learning Units about healthy lifestyles promotion, and a toolkit with strategies for creating physically active school environments. Also, we will create a toolkit with strategies and resources for parents.   Project dissemination will be implemented across each partner region and includes an online dissemination through a Mobile phone APP, scientific events aimed at teachers and researchers, workshops with teachers including training on how to use the teaching resources, and workshops with parents providing recommendations for promoting healthier lifestyles among their children and adolescents.   * Content developed by David Sánchez Oliva, João Martins and EUMOVE consortium.
