2020 AIESEP International Conference in Hong Kong

On June 17-20, 2020, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will host the next AIESEP International Conference. The theme is ‘Developing research-informed and practice-led innovation in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment for physical education and sport’. The priorities are to share current research on the following four axes: quality physical education and sport, promoting physical literacy, assessment praxis, innovation in teacher preparation and professional development.

The Organizing Committee chaired by Professor Amy HA, is preparing a very exciting and dynamic conference in Hong Kong with the full support of the AIESEP Board.

Given the current political situation in Hong Kong, as reported by the media, the AIESEP Board asked Hong Kong colleagues from CUHK and elsewhere in Hong Kong to provide a careful analysis of the political situation and possible impact on our 2020 conference. In summary, their answers are as follows:

1. International Airport: To the best of the organizer’s knowledge, the airport itself, and all routes to and from the airport, are very safe. Within the last 4 weeks or so, no flights were severely delayed or cancelled due to the political circumstances, and no change is expected in the future.

2. Accommodation: The organizers have already signed an agreement with a hotel that will offer special rates to the delegates. The hotel is directly adjacent to the conference venue, so for delegates who stay in the hotel, safe and timely arrival at the conference venue can be guaranteed.

3. Traveling to and from the university: The university metro station, the most convenient form of transportation to and from the university – was not affected by any of the protests. In fact, a large gathering (of university students across all institutions in HK) took place at the university in early September, and the transportation to the university was unaffected. So again, no change is expected in the future.

The AIESEP Board, working closely with Professor Ha and Dr. Johan Ng, discussed the matter in detail this week and are very happy with these assurances.
The Board, Professor Ha and Dr. Ng, therefore, collectively decided that AIESEP 2020 should continue to be hosted in Hong Kong.

AIESEP is eager to welcome you in Hong Kong in June 2020.

The specific AIESEP Conference website will provide all relevant information: abstract submission, programme, etc. Please see: https://aiesep.spe.cuhk.edu.hk/.
Please note that we will continue to provide regular updates to you in relation to this conference…
