News from UNESCO Chair on Physical Activity and Health in Educational Settings

Sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity (PIA) are growing global health issues and evidence suggests that PIA is a key driver for cardiovascular and chronic diseases. Health and well-being of schoolchildren and teachers is not granted in many underprivileged areas of low-and-middle-income countries. The current and projected physical activity levels for neglected socioeconomic communities from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are even worse. Therefore, these children and teachers cannot achieve their full physical and cognitive potential.
KaziBantu is working to make a positive contribution, by giving teachers and learners the tools to live healthier lives. This Swiss-South African initiative aims to improve the health and well-being of teachers and learners at low-resourced primary schools in several African countries. Guided by the UNESCO Chair on ‘Physical Activity and Health in Education Settings’ (https://unesco-chair.dsbg.unibas.ch/en/home/), KaziBantu is rolling out two key projects: KaziKidz (for schoolchildren) and KaziHealth (for teachers).
