AIESEP Announces Landmark 10-Year Partnership with Spectrum Institute for Teaching and Learning

AIESEP is delighted to share exciting news about the future of the AIESEP PhD Summer School. On September 8, 2025, AIESEP and the Spectrum Institute for Teaching and Learning (SITL) signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will shape the PhD Summer School for the next decade.

Through this generous commitment, SITL has pledged to support the Summer School for the next 10 years, ensuring that future generations of doctoral students in physical education, sport pedagogy, and related fields will benefit from a truly transformative academic experience.

What This Means for PhD Students in 2026

Starting with the Taipei Summer School in 2026, students accepted into the program will receive an unprecedented level of support to attend the 3-day summer school directly after the 2026 AIESEP World Congress:

  • Free housing for the full duration of the Summer School and AIESEP World Congress (double occupancy with another other PhD summer school student)
  • Complimentary registration for the AIESEP World Congress
  • Lunches and coffee breaks covered throughout the conference and summer school
  • Evening dinners together during the Summer School program
  • Travel grants will be available to support participation from students around the world

This enhanced support package is designed to remove financial barriers, enabling a diverse and global group of PhD students to participate, present their work, and join a growing international network of scholars.

Looking Ahead

With SITL’s long-term backing, AIESEP will now be able to host the PhD Summer School every other year for the next decade. This collaboration secures the sustainability and expansion of one of AIESEP’s signature initiatives, providing early-career scholars with mentorship, community, and a platform to shape the future of our field.

Applications for the 2026 PhD Summer School in Taipei are currently open, with a deadline of October 31, 2025. The application can be found here and on the AIESEP website.

Join Us

We are thrilled to embark on this 10-year journey in partnership with the Spectrum Institute for Teaching and Learning. Together, we will continue to build spaces where PhD students from around the world can learn, share, and thrive as members of the AIESEP community.

We look forward to welcoming the next cohort of scholars in Taipei in 2026!
