Assistant Professor of Physical Education Position at College of Charleston

The Department of Health and Human Performance (HEHP) at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Physical Education Teacher Education beginning in August of 2018. HEHP offers a BS in physical education with a concentration in teacher education. The program has been accredited by NCATE/NASPE since 2004. HEHP is one of the fastest growing and largest departments on the College’s urban campus, located in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Academic Responsibilities: 1) Provide high-quality instruction in three courses per semester within the Physical Education curriculum, 2) Participate in the development and advancement of curriculum, 3) Establish an independent, sustainable line of inquiry, 4) Participate in development of recruitment and retention plan for PETE majors, 5) Supervise HEHP student clubs, 6) Establish working relationships with local schools and school districts, 7) Supervise candidates in field experience and clinical practice, 8) Engage in service activities within the program, department, school and college as appropriate, and 9) Commit to a liberal arts & sciences undergraduate education.

Minimum Qualifications: 1) An earned doctorate in Physical Education Teacher Education, or closely-related discipline, from an accredited institution, 2) The experience/training to teach courses such as methods courses, team and individual sports, assessment, administration, and introductory courses, 3) Ability to work in a collaborative team environment to conduct research related to physical education and health in the P-12 public school environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Higher education teaching experience in the subject areas listed above, academic advising experience, evidence of scholarly productivity, K-12 teaching experience, and prior activity in higher education service activities.
