Gender, Physical Education and Active Lifestyles: Researching young people’s experiences Conference

The Institute for Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure is pleased to announce a forthcoming conference to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sheila Scraton’s book, Shaping Up To Womanhood: Gender and Girls’ Physical Education.
In recognition of the diverse reach of this significant work, we invite postgraduate, early career and established scholars to attend this day of celebration and stimulating discussion.
We seek proposals for presentations from those committed to socio-critical and/or feminist analyses of young people’s experiences of physical education, sport, health and active lifestyles. These include empirical, theoretical, methodological, and/or policy focused papers, or those offering insights into the possibilities and prospects for future research and practice. There will be an opportunity for selected papers to be included in a special journal edition.
Keynote speakers will include; Emeritus Professor Sheila Scraton, Leeds Beckett University and Dr Emma Rich, Bath University.
The deadline for submissions of proposals is 12:00 1 March 2017.
Proposals should be submitted in one of the following formats:
- Individual abstract, containing 250 words for a 20 minute presentation.
- Collective themed panel of three abstracts, containing 250 words each for 20 minute presentations.
