Call for Papers – Voices of Individuals with Visual Impairment

Call for Papers – Frontiers in Sport and Active Living – Sport, Leisure, Tourism and Events – Research Topic: Amplifying the Voices of Individuals with Visual Impairments and Deaf-blindness in the Context of Sports

The global inclusion movement, alongside the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), has shed light on the necessity to combat marginalization and discrimination faced by individuals with disabilities. Despite advancements, research indicates that individuals with visual impairments and deaf-blindness encounter significant barriers to participating in sports, physical activity, and physical education. Current studies reveal a gap in understanding their perspectives and experiences, which is crucial for designing genuinely inclusive environments. Addressing this gap requires a shift in perspective amplifying the voices of individuals with BVI and deaf-blindness within scholarly discourse.

This call for papers aims to foster research that amplifies the voices of individuals with visual impairments and deaf-blindness in the context of sports, PA, and PE. We seek contributions that explore the lived experiences, perspectives, and challenges faced by individuals with BVI and deaf-blindness in the aforementioned settings. Additionally, we encourage submissions that propose innovative methodologies to actively engage individuals with disabilities in research processes, aligning with principles of inclusivity and empowerment. Ultimately, the goal is to advance understanding, identify barriers, and propose solutions to enhance the participation and inclusion of individuals with BVI and deaf-blindness in sports, PA, and PE.

We invite submissions across disciplines to contribute original research articles, reviews, case studies, and methodological papers. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Experiences and perspectives of individuals with visual impairments and deaf-blindness in sports, PA, and PE.
  • Barriers to participation and inclusion faced by individuals with BVI and deaf-blindness in sports and PE settings.
  • Innovative methodologies for researching the experiences of individuals with disabilities in sports, PA and PE.
  • Strategies and interventions to enhance the participation and inclusion of individuals with BVI and deaf-blindness in sports, PA and PE.
  • Examination of specialized PE programs for individuals with BVI and deaf-blindness and their effectiveness in promoting participation and inclusion.

Authors are encouraged to adopt approaches in their research that authentically convey the perspectives of individuals with disabilities throughout the research process. Submissions should adhere to the guidelines provided by the journal and contribute novel insights to the field of inclusive sports and physical education.
