The School of Kinesiology at Auburn University is seeking candidates interested in pursuing a doctorate in the area of physical education. Funding is available for well qualified candidates that covers tuition (including summer) and provides a monthly stipend. Other benefits include subsidies towards conference travel (available from the unit, college and graduate school level), as well as possibilities for research awards towards dissertation costs. Significant opportunities are also available for teaching within the physical education teacher education program, including the supervision of students in field experiences and during internships.
The doctoral degree includes a core that focuses on effective teaching and learning, intervention research, and is designed to engage students in research projects across the span of the degree. The goal is to prepare candidates for success in achieving academic positions in physical education teacher education at the university level. Doctoral candidates will be supervised by Dr. Peter Hastie, Dr. Alice Buchanan, and Dr. Sheri Brock. Dr. Hastie’s research focuses on school-based interventions to improve student learning outcomes, and is strongly grounded in the Sport Education model. Dr. Buchanan’s examines the experiences of young people in inclusive physical education environments. Dr. Brock studies students’ social interactions during participation in physical education, with the aim of promoting the most equitable and positive experiences for young people through effective instruction.

The School is housed in a state-of-the-art facility built in 2013.
