ONLINE SEMINAR: DEVELOPING AN EMBODIED UNDERSTANDING OF YOUNG PEOPLE’S EXPERIENCES OF PLACE, SPACE AND MOVEMENT

The Scottish Educational Research Association (SERA) Health and Wellbeing Research in Education Network and Inclusive Education Network are co-hosting an online seminar on Wednesday 28th January 2026.

Join us and speakers Stella Gkegka and Aimee MacDonald from the University of Strathclyde for an interactive online seminar where they will reflect on using participatory research methods—collage and walking interviews—to engage young people in meaningful dialogue and to co-create understandings of their lived experiences. Aimee draws on research with LGBTQ+ young people, while Stella shares insights from her work with Autistic young people, illustrating how these creative methods supported inclusive participation, relationship building and centring young people’s voices.

The seminar will open with Aimee and Stella sharing their research approaches, followed by a pause for questions and discussion. They will then consider t

he implications of these participatory approaches for practice in education and related professional settings, before opening up to further questions and discussion.

The seminar is scheduled for Wednesday 28th January 1700 – 1815 (GMT) MS Teams – Online. Please follow this link or scan the QR code to register. Health Research in Education Network Online Seminar Wednesday 28th January 2026 – Fill in form
