AIESEP Connect for October – Dialogue and solidarity in teacher education: Positionality in advocating for social justice
We invite the AIESEP community to the AIESEP Connect session to be held on Thursday, 26th October at 11 a.m. (Ireland time UTC+1).
The session will develop and share, through work being conducted in the teacher education practitioner research space, ideas about a teaching approach to social justice. This session will share some of the findings of a previous research project funded by the SCOTENS Shared Island initiative. That project developed and shared an initial teaching understanding of social justice across two initial teacher education (ITE) programmes from the North and South of Ireland. This research was conducted by seven teacher educators and 32 pre-service teachers (PSTs) and focused on ITE and the preparation of PSTs for the teaching of social justice.
The session will be hosted by Carla Luguetti and the speakers will be Ann MacPhail (project leader), and two teacher educators involved in the research: Paul McFlynn and Dylan Scanlon. Additionally, we will have the pre-service teacher Graham invited as a speaker to share his experiences in this research.
The goal of the session is to create a safe and engaging space that is meaningful, relevant and worthwhile to all participants as they experience and consider communicating and educating about social justice practices and the importance of positionalities.
