Position: Kinesiology – Assistant or Associate Professor

Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine is one of the world’s leading French-language medical faculties. In both teaching and research, its mission is to actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge and mastery of skills needed to improve healthcare.

The School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences (EKSAP) is a leader in training of physical activity specialists through an interdisciplinary approach to improve the health of populations, the practice of physical activity, and sports performance, all of which contributes to the development of Kinesiology. Professors and Researchers within EKSAP teach and study the link between physical activity, health, and performance through three research themes. EKSAP, in conjunction with the Faculty of Education, also trains physical and health education (HPE) teachers.

Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

– Pursue high-level research, publication, and outreach activities in physical activity sciences;

– Demonstrate that your research will align with or complement the work of the School’s Align with the EKSAP’s research themes, for example, by strengthening the themes on the benefits of physical activity for children’s mental and cardiometabolic health, while contributing to the social and educational mission of PE programs.

– Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels;

– Supervise graduate students (e.g., master’s and doctoral programs in physical activity sciences and master’s non-thesis programs in kinesiology);

– Contribute to the academic life of EKSAP, the institution, particularly within the HPE program.

Qualifications

– Hold a bachelor’s degree in HPE, Kinesiology or an equivalent field and a PhD in HPE, Kinesiology, or an equivalent field

– Possess expertise in the field of promoting physically active lifestyles in schools, with an experience in HPE teaching or HPE teacher training.

– Possesses in-depth knowledge of the principles underlying the adoption of a healthy and active lifestyle, along with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate innovative interventions that foster motivation, autonomy, and the long-term adoption of health-promoting behaviours among youth.

– Demonstrate an ability to secure funding and a scientific output that reflects original and significant contributions to the field.

– Shows academic leadership and visibility conducive to fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across internal, national, and international networks.

– Demonstrates the ability to deliver high-quality academic teaching and conduct research on physical activity, health, and education within school settings, as well as the capacity to build a broad professional network across the education sector.

– Demonstrated potential to mentor graduate students.

– Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
